Welcome

Welcome to Mr Engh's fine arts class home page.  This year, I will be teaching the 6th and 7th graders.   During their fine arts rotation, all students will participate in 3 units -- clay sculpture, drawing and painting.  Within these units, students explore the elements of art, principles of design and art appreciation.  Art-making techniques and craftsmanship are developed.  Students will be explore and discuss the work of famous artists.  Participation, effort and a willingness to experiment are encouraged and rewarded.

Students should bring a pencil with an eraser to class every day.  This is the only material students must supply.

All art projects are completed in class.  However, students do have some independent work (sketchbooks & drawing lessons) which may be completed during class or at home.    Within these drawings, students should be practicing techniques and skills from class and experimenting with ideas for projects.

Projects & Grades:  All projects are considered works-in-progress until the end of the rotation. Therefore, students may improve project grades through the end of the rotation.  (See more on grades below.)

If extra time is needed, students may come to art club or during lunch to work on projects.

Students needing extra time to complete projects also may see Mr. Engh to arrange an extension beyond the rotation dates when possible.

Grades:  Each project is worth 100 points.  The first 70 points are for participation.  The remaining 30 points are based on following directions and project completion.  All projects are considered works in progress until the end of the rotation.  As such, all grades should be seen as progress points until the end of the rotation. Project grades may be increased by improving the project by the end of the rotation.

Art Club:  Art club is run as an open art studio.  All Haven students are welcome.  Art Club is free.  Students may come every week or whenever they are able.  We meet before school on Tuesdays at 7:45 A.M. in the art room, AA2.   There is an Art Club bulletin board in front of the art room with more information.

Students may see Mr. Engh to arrange to work on art projects and eat during lunch periods.

Mr. Engh can be contacted at (847)859-8265 or enghd@district65.net.  Class meets in room AA2 of the Haven arts wing.
