Spelling bee champion crowned after 12 rounds

Congratulations to this H-A-V-E-N Middle School student! Cecily won the English District-wide spelling bee for the second year in a row, clinching her victory with the word "taxonomic" after 12 rounds. This year’s words, announced by District 65 teacher (and ETHS football announcer!) Tim Murtaugh, included challenges like hopscotch, Wednesday, fajitas, astringent, bowsprit, and bureau.

To get to the District bee, 4th-8th grade students from across the district won their classroom competitions and then a school-wide spelling bee composed of classroom winners. The Spanish District-wide spelling bee is next Wednesday, February 19.

Cecily’s next step is a regional competition. Congratulations to all of our participants!
